How to make my own e-liquid?
Today we are going to walk you through a recipe to make your own e-liquid. Precautions must be taken when handling materials like nicotine. We are going to spec based on 100mg for nicotine concentration. Let’s do a mix of one 60mL regular freebase and one 30mL salt nicotine version of the same flavor. That way we can look at the differences between them. To start here is the recipe we will follow.
Root beer Float 3mg 60mL
Root beer Float FW 13%
Root beer CAP 4%
Vanilla Whipped Cream CAP 2%
Vanilla Bean Ice Cream TFA 4%
Sweetener TFA 4%
EM 1% (optional)
VG 60%
PG 40%
Nicotine .3%
Total flavor percentage 27%-28% (if using optional)
The Codes are FW (Flavor West), CAP (Capella Flavors), TFA (The Flavor Apprentice), EM (ethyl maltol TFA Cotton Candy), VG (Vegetable Glycerin), PG (Propylene Glycol).
We will offer these flavors soon on the website for you to DIY
Let’s convert this recipe into an easy to understand format.
Rootbeer Float My Eliquid
Base Materials and Size
(One) 60mL Container |
Nicotine (100mg)/mL [10/90]): 1.8mL / 2.23g |
Flavorings - 27%
13% Rootbeer Float |
Flavor West |
7.8mL / 8.08g |
4% Vanilla Bean Ice Cream |
The Flavor Apprentice |
2.4mL / 2.49g |
4% Sweetener |
The Flavor Apprentice |
2.4mL / 2.49g |
4% Rootbeer |
Capella |
2.4mL / 2.49g |
2% Vanilla Whipped Cream |
Capella |
1.2mL / 1.24g |
Now we can see these numbers make more sense. This converted all the flavorings and materials to grams or milliliters for easy mixing. Add all the ingredients into your 60ml bottle as follows:
Shake to mix and allow it to sit for a couple days and mellow out. You can add the .6ml/.62g of EM as an optional.
This mix will deliver a basic root beer float that tastes good and has some creamy notes. We will dive into a much more complex flavor in the future.
Now let’s look at a salt version of this. Remember to use 100mg/ml salt nicotine for this next recipe
Rootbeer Float My Eliquid
Base Material And Size
(One) 30mL Container |
Nicotine (100mg)/mL [10/90]): 10.5mL / 13.01g |
Flavorings - 27%
13% Rootbeer Float |
Flavor West |
3.9mL / 4.04g |
4% Vanilla Bean Ice Cream |
The Flavor Apprentice |
1.2mL / 1.24g |
4% Sweetener |
The Flavor Apprentice |
1.2mL / 1.24g |
4% Rootbeer |
Capella |
1.2mL / 1.24g |
2% Vanilla Whipped Cream |
Capella |
0.6mL / 0.62g |
Add all the ingredients to your 30ml bottle as follows:
Notice how the mix is 50vg/50pg as it needs to be thinner to wick in salt devices. Also note how much nicotine needs to be added to make salt nicotine. It uses up raw materials quickly however the product generally lasts longer when vaped.
Some interesting points to note about weight and mL mixing: Notice that VG and PG are very similar in mL to another in this mix however the weights are much different. This is because the specific gravity of the two liquids are different. This recipe takes those differences into account to make sure the mix is proper.
Try these out. We will offer this mix on the website for you to try in the future as well to see how a recipe translates into an actual mix.
Later on we will try a more complex recipe.
